Ho, Ho, Ho!

Expect another blog immediately following this one about our fun weekend out of Sydney!  This is a post from our Santa Fest weekend from a week ago.  Sorry, I am behind but it is so nice to finally be writing about FUN instead of the logistics of being here.  J  I’m also including some pictures from our Thanksgiving dinner.

For our last weekend in Darling Harbour at our temporary apartment, there was a big Santa Fest for the whole weekend.  On Saturday night, they had a big fireworks show, inflatable Santas, people dressed as Santa, a Santa parade, a pyrotechnic jetski show, and the lighting of the “brightest Christmas tree in the Southern Hemisphere” (or so they claim)!  There were so many people there but the pictures will give you an idea of what we were living around for our first month here.
That evening we had a great time people watching, had a great view for the fireworks show, and then had a nice dinner after.  I hope you enjoy the pictures and videos from that weekend!  The fireworks show was very long so we just gave you a small section of it.  Luke turned the camera sideways but hopefully you still get the view ok.  Look closely at the Christmas tree to see the kangaroos!
On Sunday morning we had a short walk to the starting line for the Santa 5K from Darling Harbour to the Opera House! It was so fun to see everyone dressed like Santa.  As part of the registration fee we got the full suit with pants and jacket, beard, hat, and belt.  It was a riot!!!
Once we lined up the director had everyone thank the police and made everyone promise to them that they would not push anyone into the Harbour because we would be running so close to the water the whole time.  Then he said over and over how this wasn’t a timed race or a competition, so to make sure everyone was having a FUN RUN!  Hmmmm…Interesting since at the end they announced the first male and female with their times!  It was a very flat and fast course with a great view.  I was proud of Luke with this being his very first 5K!  It was pretty hot to be running in the suit but luckily it started raining a little when we got to the end so it cooled off a lot.
They had everyone put back on their full suits for a picture of all of the Santas on the stairs of the Opera House.  We are still waiting for the pictures to post online.  They should be sometime this week, we hope!  They had a band singing Christmas songs and carols so that was great to hear.  We still haven’t heard how many participants there were but it was at least over 2,000!  All of the proceeds went to the Variety Children’s Charity so I was so happy about that!  I’m ready to start volunteering for this group with the events they do throughout the year.
It’s officially Summer here but hasn’t felt too much like it yet.  Even on the news they have been talking about how rainy it is and how it hasn’t been like this for 70 years!  It may be almost Christmas, but it doesn’t really feel like it yet for me.  We get to move out of this awful hotel in a few days and into another temporary apartment until we can move into our place.  I’m so ready to get out of this place!!  It will be nice to have a kitchen again, be able to do laundry, and just have some space.  I’m hoping to put up some type of small tree and a few decorations.
Enjoy these pictures and short videos!
